Hey everyone! Let’s talk about exercising when you have a thyroid problem. Whether you’re dealing with thyroid issues or adrenal problems, it’s crucial to approach exercise in a way that supports your health rather than making things worse. Here at Modern Thyroid Clinic, we’ve got some tips to help you navigate this.
The Dos: Best Exercises for Thyroid Patients
- Walking:some text
- Why It’s Great: Walking is fantastic because it doesn’t tire out your adrenals.
- Pro Tip: Try walking fasted (before breakfast). It helps your body tap into fat stores for energy. So, first thing in the morning, get some sunshine in your eyes and head out for a walk, either outside or on a treadmill.

- Why It’s Great: Slow weight training is excellent for building strength without stressing your adrenals.
- Pro Tip: Avoid cardiovascular circuit training where your heart rate stays elevated. Take plenty of rest between sets to allow your heart rate to come back down.

- Why It’s Great: Yoga is calming and doesn’t stress your adrenals, making it a perfect choice for thyroid patients.
The Don’ts: Exercises to Avoid
- HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training):some text

- Why to Avoid: Similar to HIIT, CrossFit can severely tax your adrenal glands. Some of the sickest patients I see have ruined their adrenal function with intense CrossFit workouts.
