Clean wine recommendations for thyroid patients
By: Elise Murguia
Hello, fellow thyroid warriors! Have you noticed as a struggling thyroid patient that even a small glass of wine leaves you feeling terrible? I've been there and I've got a solution that might just make your wine-less evenings a whole lot better. Quick disclaimer– I'm all about moderation. But as a thyroid patient who once had to tiptoe around everything I could and could not consume, I know the struggle. So, if you're still in that place, keep the faith – there's hope. And yes, it includes enjoying a glass of wine without the aftermath.
Back in the peak of my personal Hashimoto's and hypothyroidism battle, I had to be meticulous about what went into my body. A mere quarter-glass of wine would send me into a spiral of feeling terrible later that day or night. But, as they say, times change, and so did my ability to enjoy a glass of wine without the dreaded consequences.
During one of my recent TikTok lives, where everyone was curious about the wine I was sipping, I spilled the beans on my secret – clean wine. If you're tired of feeling horrible due to toxins and pollutants lurking in conventional wines, this is your solution. The best part is these options are reasonably affordable!
For a red wine in the winter, start with a Barbera from the Piedmont region of Italy. This varietal is not only delicious but has proven to be a game-changer for those of us with thyroid concerns. It's a great introduction to clean wine that won't leave you regretting your choices. For warmer seasons like summer or spring, I recommend trying an Arneis from Piedmont, specifically from the Roero region. Once again, indulge responsibly, check with your doctor, but I'd love to hear if these clean wine alternatives make a positive difference for you.
So, if you've been yearning for a clean wine alternative that won't wreak havoc on your thyroid, give Barbera and Arneis from Piedmont a shot. It's time to enjoy your glass of wine without the worry of feeling terrible afterward. Remember, drink responsibly, check with your healthcare provider, and let me know how it goes – here's to raising a thyroid-friendly glass to a healthier, happier you!
